7. Jack Rodwell to Manchester City
Another sorry case of a promising player who wrecked his career at the sight of hard cash, Jack Rodwell burst into the scene at Everton in 2008 and his top-notch performances for the blue Merseyside attracted interests from European heavyweights and also got a call-up from the national team. After longterm speculations, Manchester City finally tied up a deal worth £15 million with him in 2012 but saw their investment going horribly awry as Rodwell was never able to produce the magic he conjured with the Toffees and all the ballyhoo surrounding the transfer dissipated gradually. Then he joined Sunderland in 2014.
